1990 - 1st Annual MLF
July 6th & 7th
The Marshland Festival is born.
Twenty two years ago a group of parents, school teachers
and administrators were concerned for the youth of Hackberry Louisiana.
These various groups of the northwestern town of Cameron Parish, were
trying to provide a way to fund various School, Church, and Community
organizations. Through these efforts, the Marshland Festival was born.
The Marshland Festival Association Board was created which would provide
a means to bring the community together in one place. The non-profit
board would provide the environment and entertainment needed to draw
local and surrounding areas together. The youth groups would have the
opportunity to raise the money they needed to support their organizations.

By 1993 the Marshland Festival
had out grown its home and could no longer support the large crowds
of festival goer's.
A decision was made to move to a larger facility which could support
the large crowds, provide indoor air conditioning and eliminate the
likely hood of rainout's. The Lake Charles Burton Coliseum became the
new home of the Marshland Festival.
In addition, because of the other local Forth of July events in the
area, the Festival dates were moved to last weekend in July.
